I have stayed here many times over 30 years. It has a number of different hotel groups. The location close to the sea, beaches, golf course and surrounding countryside, historical cities and towns make it an attractive place to stay. The food is excellent and well presented. The staff, as always, helpful, friendly and profzessional.
The restaurant Manager was exceptionally helpful and good - much improved on previous stays. We also enjpy the general ambience, having been coming for over forty years
Room seemed quite 'tired'. Windows rattled, some woodwork needed renewing, bathroom very old fashioned. Needs a lot of money spent.
Pleasant and atentive staff, and an excellent chef and dining facilities.
All staff from b'Fast staff (esp lady maitre d') thru front desk thru staff in bar attached to Spa (!! True...a bar next to the spa/gym !! Counter- intuitive but works!!)
Old facility charm is one thing but no aircon , small shower , windows hard to ope. However : facility being renovated
Hotel is undergoing some refurbishment at the moment but we found this did not interfere with our stay, and we were aware of it ahead of arrival. The staff were friendly and helpful. This was the first night of our honeymoon and so they upgraded us free of charge to one of their suites which was fantastic, and left a card in the room too which was a nice touch. We had a nice meal in the hotel restaurant and the staff understood and catered for my wife's wheat allergy with ease. Will definitely be staying there again.
Nothing, really, it would be difficult even to try to pick faults, other than the obvious issues caused by the current external refurbishment meaning scaffolding on some parts and the garden appears to be partly undergoing relandscaping, but this of course can't be helped if it needs to be done!
The service in general was good and the staff were extremely helpful. Swimming pool is great fun for children. I love having tea and coffee in the hotel room. Lovely sea view.
They forgot to provide us with the extra bed and our reminder did not seem to work, so as we were too tired to persit we ended up sleeping altogether in the same bed! A bit of a squeeze and the bed wobbled. The hotel rooms do not appear to have been refurbished in years. It is like going back in time. Could not open the windows.
The friendly staff and the huge choice at breakfast.
Well located for the Channel Tunnel, very helpful staff and everything you need but desparately in need of refurbishment.
the room was not up to much. the double bed was small and on a slope so we kept sliding out of the bed. the toilet door wouldn't shut, wallpaper was coming off the wall in the bathroom, the bedroom carpet was threadbare. the rooms need a complete re-vamp, my wife and I are of the opinion that the hotel got its star rating because of the facilities it offers, if not for the spa, pool and gym we dont think it would have had a star rating.
Quiet location by seafront with swimming pool. Breakfast provided a reasonable selection.
The hotel is very tired and over the Autumn/Winter 2010 is due for a major refurbishment. Currently it is not worthy of 4 stars. In 2011 hopefully this will change.
The room needed redecorating, the chandelier and pictures were dusty and the bath water was tepid. The food in the restaurant was pseudo haute cuisine, over priced and not enjoyable.
Our junior suite overlooked the sea and was very spacious and airy.
There was no point having a shower in the bath as the water just trickled out. The bar downstairs did not have any ambience or atmosphere and was not conduicive to stay and relax in.
We've stayed here many times before and never cease to be amazed by the outstanding location and the fantastic view. The breakfast is good value, and the staff are very professional and attentive. The hotel has a classic splendour about it and may have seen better days, in some areas, but haven't we all?!
The Hythe Imperial has followed many other hotels in supplying toasters at breakfast time and leaving guests to provide toast for themselves, rather than have the waitress bring it with their tea/coffee. I'm not a fan of this system as it often descends into chaos and impatience, and would seem easy to rearrange, if so desired. I would stress that this is a minor quibble and did not detract from the enjoyment of our visit.
We thought the situation - views of the sea and golf course, and the food was excellent! The staff were courteous, helpful and responsive. So close to an excellent walk to work up an appetite!
We thought that the room that our guests used, 105, was rather small and in need of a complete overhaul. Price per room - ours being room 314 - was not comparable. Like many hotels of this age and grandeur, we think that it is in need of a little 'TLC'.
it was quiet, relaxing and just what we wanted.
poor reception for telivision in bedroom
